Local Artist Makayla Long

Hi, my name is Makayla Long! I was born in Bedford, TX, and have lived in many states. Though most of my life I’ve lived in Fayetteville, AR. I started drawing when I was a child, about six years old. My family has always been impressed with my skills. I remember my Mama and Nana entered me in a drawing contest to see if I could attend the school. Unfortunately, I was nine and too young to enroll, but they really liked my entry! I also won a bike in a contest for drawing Sparky the Dog! For the start of my adult life, I tried to go to college for baking and I quickly realized it wasn’t meant for me. Every time I tried to stray away from my art, something was pulling me back. I had come to the realization art was my calling, so I continued to work hard and am always constantly striving to improve every day. I can use multiple mediums, but my primary is digital. I’ve been a self taught artist going on seven years now. My style is considered anime and/or manga, because I’m the most drawn to it. Ha ha, drawn. Anyway, in all seriousness, I grew up watching shows like Naruto, Sailor Moon and Pokemon. I want to inspire others as those shows have inspired me to be creative and to never give up. That anyone can accomplish anything if they put their mind to it. The most interesting fact to me though is when I was growing up, anime and manga wasn’t as popular, now it seems most people around the area know more about it. I want to show that anime and manga can be an art and that it's a different way to show another world within yourself. Thank you for taking the time to read about me and checking out my art!
